Seaside Spotlights Queens of Country in

SEASIDE SPOTLIGHTS QUEENS OF COUNTRY IN
Ted Swindley's THE HONKY TONK ANGELS

Slap on your rhinestones, pull out the denim, and take a ride with The Honky Tonk Angels! Seaside Music Theater presents this spirited new musical comedy revue by Ted Swindley, the author of the hit musical Always...Patsy Cline, January 15 - February 8, 2004 at SMT Downtown.

From the unforgettable songs by Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, and Kitty Wells to modern day favorites by Dolly Parton, Pam Tillis, Reba McIntyre, and Mary Chapin Carpenter, this light-hearted show turns up the volume on country music's beloved female voices. The song list has over 30 memorable hits including, It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels, Stand By Your Man, Coal Miner's Daughter, Delta Dawn, Amazing Grace, I Will Always Love You, 9 to 5, and Harper Valley P.T.A., making Angels a nostalgic journey that will please big-time country music lovers and theatergoers alike.

Our three heroines have one starry-eyed mission: ride a Greyhound bus to Nashville and fulfill their dreams of country music stardom. They trade in drunken husbands, harassing bosses, and overbearing widowed fathers for new friendships and big dreams. The sweet honesty of some of country's most familiar lyrics help tell each of their stories, sometimes making you want to dance and sometimes bringing a tear to your eye.

According to Swindley, Angels is about friendship, faith, and having faith to follow your dreams. He fell in love with country music after moving to Nashville during the run of his smash hit, Always...Patsy Cline, which paid tribute to the late, great queen of country.

"There's a purity to it, a real honesty and pure spirit. It's a rich heritage," says Swindley of the genre, which currently enjoys an infectious popularity thanks to the vocal chords of present-day angels like Martina McBride, Faith Hill, and Shania Twain.

Three big-voiced actresses, each possessing an exceptional knack for comedy, star in Seaside's production as the determined angels who bring the music to life: Susie Roelofsz, who starred as murderous showgirl Roxie Hart in the Summer 2003 sellout hit, Chicago; Darlin Barry, who provided comic relief in the Summer 2003 productions of Oklahoma (Aunt Eller), and A Tale of Two Cities (Pross); and Michelle Knight, a talented new performer to Seaside Music Theater who recently appeared in the national tour of Grease. The artistic team, led by Director/Choreographer Chuck Hoenes, includes Set Designer Bob Fetterman, Costume Designer Brian O'Keefe, Technical Director Brian Kelley, Lighting Designer Annmarie Duggan, and Sound Designer Jason Hoffman.
