Costume Handling & Care Instructions & Rental Policies
1. Wholesale rentals of costumes are done by contract only. Each show rental requires a duly executed contract and the designated 50% deposit payment attached to it, to be returned to us prior to any coordination/alterations.
2. The following should be returned with the signed contract: Deposit check; copy of insurance liability limits; declaration of the customer/ performing house; tax-exempt certification.
3. SMT will charge Florida sales tax of 6.5%, unless the customer's tax-exempt number is on file.
4. Upon receipt, unpack and inventory all costumes. Inform SMT immediately of any shipping damage and packing discrepancies.
5. Original SMT labels are not removed or covered up (fabric labels inside costumes).
6. Costumes must be stored on appropriate hangers.
7. Eating, drinking and smoking in SMT costumes is forbidden.
8. Dress shields are to be used where applicable (e.g. ladies dresses, men's jackets).
9. T-shirts must be worn under all men's costumes.
10. Extreme care must be taken when packing costumes for return shipment. The majority of damage in any costume rental is the direct result of improper packing; therefore, the following should be noted:
a. When unpacking, take particular note of how items are packed, and repacked the same way.
b. Boxes should be repacked per inventory provided for each numbered box.
c. Hats should be packed together in a separate box - not with other costumes or pieces that might crush them.
d. Costumes must never be packed when damp. Allow sufficient drying time after final performance.
e. See inventory sheets for appropriate cleaning procedure for each item. Washable items must be laundered before returning.
11. The costume designer or coordinator of your production must be given a copy of the contract and care instructions, in order to insure that all items and guidelines are followed.
