About the Director of Education

Gary Cadwallader - SMT Director of Education

Gary Cadwallader is an actor, director, choreographer, and Director of Education at Seaside Music Theater.
As an actor, Gary most recently played Luther Billis in South Pacific, Cosmo Brown in Singin' in the Rain, and "The Man" in Sisters of Swing.   Other  SMT credits include Maurice in Beauty and the Beast, KoKo in The Mikado, and Bert in The Royal Family, multiple roles in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), Rooster in Annie, Silent Sam in The Cocoanuts, Passepartout in Around the World in Eighty Days, Amos Hart in Chicago, Ali Hakim in Oklahoma, Barsad in A Tale of Two Cities, Tranio in The Taming of the Shrew, John Adams in 1776, and the Cat in Honk!, Touchstone in As You Like It, and Banjo in The Man Who Came To Dinner, amongst many others.

Recent directing credits iclude Go, Dog, Go! both at the Orlando Rep and here at SMT, The Apple Tree with SMT's Music Theater Institute, A Year With Frog and Toad, Little Shop of Horrors, Disney's Aladdin Jr., Peter Rabbit, and Alexander and the Terrible...Bad Day at SMT; The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), The Spitfire Grill, Rumors, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, and Moon Over Buffalo at Limelight Theatre in St. Augustine; Tapestry; The Songs of Carol King at Playhouse by the Beach; Marivaux's The Triumph of Love and A Midsummer Night's Dream at Orlando's Civic Theater; In the Rec Room at Atlantic Center For the Arts, and The Merry Wives of Windsor and Henry IV, Part 1 at the Atlantic Shakespeare Festival.

Other performance credits include E.K. Hornbeck in Inherit the Wind at Northern Stage in Vermont; Andy Ladd in Love Letters at the Playhouse by the Beach, many shows at Chicago's Wisdom Bridge Theater and Apple Tree Theatre Co., the national tour of Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story, roles in A League of Their Own and The New Untouchables, and many voice-overs.

Additional Chicago credits include Kabuki Medea (with Shozo Sato), M. Butterfly, The Great Gatsby, and Sugar.

Gary has an MFA in acting from Western Illinois University, a BA in theater fom St. Edward's University in Austin, TX, and is a proud member of Actors' Equity Association and the Screen Actors Guild.
